colonia del sacramento

After the dismal weather in Punta Del Este it was good to have a bit of sunshine in Colonia. Another second time round visit on my trip. I had never intended on retracing my steps but what the hell. To go back a second time is quite a good thing in some ways. First of all, one is familar with the place and less harrassed to do all the tourist things. And of course, one can relax and just watch the world go by. It gives a different perspective so I am now not reluctant to revisit places as I once was. At least, the places I like.

Being back in Colonia was nice and relaxing, mostly. Myself and Jacky had a few mini-bust ups! Not terribly serious but discord is a right pain in the a*rse when one has to articulate an arguement in poor Spanish and sometimes misunderstood English. It can be pretty stressful in the melee. Nonetheless these little blemishes soon disappeared and we got back to our modus operandi of stuffing our faces and drinking good wine.

So I checked out of Uruguay for the last time. Uruguay is a pleasant and clean country. It was once regarded as the Switzerland of South America and it shows. But that was the good old days before the Argentine economy imploded. The Argentines rushed to withdraw their money from Uruguay and the effects still linger on. But it is an inexpensive place to travel. The people are warm and friendly. They show a genuine interest in foreigners and rarely does one feel ripped off. And I must say that wolfing down an Asado (beef grilled over coals) is a particularly nice way to spend an afternoon.
